1st Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology Annual Report

The CDER Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology (OSE) 2020 annual report covers activities in the four core functions assigned to OSE — pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology, medication error prevention, and risk management. The report notes the Covid-19 pandemic poses particular challenges to OSE and it is using its full array of tools to ensure the safety of products for Covid-19 and to monitor their performance.

Looking ahead, the document says OSE will “continue to modernize our programs in pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology, medication error prevention and analysis, and risk management, with a sustained focus on our many Covid-19 activities. Our strategic planning will focus on enhancing drug safety surveillance activities to inform emerging safety concerns.”
