1st Simultaneous Food Animal Drug Approval by U.S., Canada

FDA announced 3/29 the first simultaneous review and approval of a new drug for food-producing animals by the agency's Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and Health Canada. The drug, Eli Lilly Elanco Animal Health's Imrestor (pegbovigrastim injection), is intended to reduce the incidence of clinical mastitis of dairy cows and replacement dairy heifers. A CVM news release said Imrestor’s approval “marks the fourth animal drug approved under collaborative initiative with Canada. The other drugs approved under this initiative are: Simparica (Sarolaner Chewable Tablet), Comfortis (spinosad), and Bravecto (fluralaner).”
