# 2 Companies Settle Opioid Epidemic Cases for $15 Million

Endo International and Allergan have agreed to pay $15 million to resolve litigation brought by two Ohio counties accusing several drug companies and distributors of fueling the U.S. opioid epidemic. Reuters [reports](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-opioids-litigation/drugmakers-endo-allergan-agree-to-15-million-in-settlements-in-major-opioid-case-idUSKCN1VA1FU?feedType=RSS&feedName=healthNews&ref=fdaweb.com) Endo will pay $10 million to the counties and provide up to $1 million worth of two of its drug products free, while Allergan will pay $5 million to resolve claims about its branded opioids but not involving generic painkillers.

Companies still set to face trial 10/21 include Purdue Pharma, Teva, and Johnson & Johnson, with distributors McKesson, Cardinal Health, and AmerisourceBergen.

The news service says that more than 2,300 suits by state and local governments are pending nationally that accuse drug manufacturers of deceptively marketing opioids in ways that downplayed their risks and drug distributors of failing to detect and halt suspicious orders.

The companies have denied any wrongdoing, saying they complied with their legal obligations and did not cause the epidemic, Reuters says.

Earlier this year, Purdue and Teva settled claims by Oklahoma’s attorney general for $270 million and $85 million, respectively, before a trial before a state court.
