2 Interchangeable Eylea Biosimilars Approved

FDA has approved two BLAs for interchangeable biosimilars to Regeneron’s Eylea (aflibercept) — Biocon Biologics’ Yesafili (aflibercept-jbvf) and Biogen’s Opuviz’s (aflibercept-yszy) — indicated for treating neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration, macular edema following retinal vein occlusion, diabetic macular edema and diabetic retinopathy.

Aflibercept products inhibit vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to prevent abnormal blood vessel growth within the eye, according to an FDA release. “By blocking VEGF, aflibercept products can slow down or reduce damage to the retina and help preserve vision,” it says.
