2 Texas Men Plead Guilty to Misbranded Drug Sales

The Department of Justice says two men from New Braunfels, TX, pleaded guilty in a Texas federal court to selling non-controlled but dangerous substances through the mail. A department statement says Evan Field and Michael Diaz bought bulk quantities of drugs such as synthetic opioids and benzodiazepines and re-sold them through a Web site. The statement says most of the drugs originated in China and were not regulated or approved for use by FDA.

“Despite disclaimers on the Web site and product packaging stating ‘for research purposes only,’ and ‘not for human consumption,’ the two defendants were aware that customers were purchasing the substances for personal use and consuming the drugs,” the department says.

The men each pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and traffic in misbranded drugs, and could be sentenced to a maximum of five years in prison.
