*Federal Register* notices: FDA has published three notices about its most recent periodic reassessment of the definition of ‘‘small number of animals’’ for minor use in major species. One [notice](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2022-09-15/pdf/2022-19955.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com) announces that the small number of animals upper limit thresholds for horses and the food-producing major species (cattle, pigs, turkeys, and chickens) will remain the same. The other two notices are a [direct final rule](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2022-09-15/pdf/2022-19954.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com) and a companion [proposed rule](https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2022-09-15/pdf/2022-19956.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com) that increase the small numbers for dogs and cats — from 70,000 to 80,000 for dogs and from 120,000 to 150,000 for cats.
