# 9 Senators Want FDA Medication Abortion Action

Nine Democratic senators led by Sen. **Elizabeth Warren** (D-MA) are asking FDA to take three specific steps to protect and expand access to medication abortion. In an 11/17 [letter](https://www.warren.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/2022.11.17%20Letter%20to%20FDA%20re%20medication%20abortion.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com) to FDA commissioner **Robert Califf**, the senators ask that the agency:

- finalize the updated Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy for mifepristone;
- lift the remaining medically unnecessary REMS restrictions; and
- work with drug sponsors to add a miscarriage management indication for mifepristone taken with misoprostol.

“In the wake of the Supreme Court’s devastating decision in *Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization* to eliminate the right to an abortion, we urge you to immediately act to defend Americans’ fundamental reproductive rights,” the nine wrote.
