9 Senators Want FDA Medication Abortion Action

Nine Democratic senators led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) are asking FDA to take three specific steps to protect and expand access to medication abortion. In an 11/17 letter to FDA commissioner Robert Califf, the senators ask that the agency:

finalize the updated Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy for mifepristone;
lift the remaining medically unnecessary REMS restrictions; and
work with drug sponsors to add a miscarriage management indication for mifepristone taken with misoprostol.

“In the wake of the Supreme Court’s devastating decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to eliminate the right to an abortion, we urge you to immediately act to defend Americans’ fundamental reproductive rights,” the nine wrote.
