FDA says an Abbott Vascular 1/29 recall of specific lots of its NC Trek RX coronary dilation catheter and NC Traveler RX coronary dilation catheters is Class 1\. The catheters were distributed between 8/2019 and 1/2020 and 13,891 devices were recalled in the U.S. An agency [statement](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/medical-device-recalls/abbott-vascular-recalls-nc-trek-rx-and-nc-traveler-rx-coronary-dilatation-catheters-due-failure?ref=fdaweb.com) says the units were recalled because the balloons in the affected lots may not deflate as intended. It says the issue is due to weaker material close to the balloon bond resulting from excessive exposure to heat during manufacturing.

Abbott says it has received 13 complaints relating to the issue and that one person has died, FDA says.
