# AbbVie Ends Voyager Therapy Development Pact

AbbVie has terminated its Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease therapy development agreements with Voyager Therapeutics. In a Securities and Exchange Commission [filing](https://www.sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edgar/data/1640266/000110465920089624/tm2026349d1%5F8k.htm&ref=fdaweb.com), Voyager says it was informed 7/28 that its agreements with AbbVie that were reached in 2018 and 2019 would end on 8/3.

“In each case, AbbVie exercised its right to terminate for convenience in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable agreement…,” Voyager said in the filing.

Voyager reportedly had conducted the research called for in the agreements and AbbVie ended the relationship before it could proceed to development.

In 2018, the companies agreed that Voyager would develop gene therapies to treat Alzheimer’s and other diseases linked to defective or excess aggregation of tau protein. And in 2019 they agreed that Voyager would use a similar approach to treat Parkinson’s and other diseases in which pathogenic species of alpha-synuclein are implicated.
