# Abiomed PMA for Expanded Impella Heart Pump

FDA has approved an Abiomed PMA for its expanded Impella CP heart pump with SmartAssist. The device includes advanced software and new optical sensor that is intended to improve real-time, exact positioning for the pump and allows for repositioning without the need for imaging equipment, according to the company. It also features the integration of clinical data informatics on the Impella console that provides left ventricular pressure, end-diastolic pressure and cardiac power output, it says. Abiomed says it ubmitted more than 60 engineering reports and full technical specifications for this expanded PMA approval.
