# Address Prescription Adderall Shortage: Spanberger

Rep. **Abigail Spanberger** (D-VA) has called on FDA and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to initiate a comprehensive federal response to alleviate the nationwide shortage of prescription Adderall (amphetamine mixed salts) and ensure access to the medication. In a [statement](https://spanberger.house.gov/posts/spanberger-urges-fda-dea-to-address-prescription-adderall-shortage?ref=fdaweb.com) (includes letter to agencies), Spanberger says Congress relaxed restrictions on providers prescribing Schedule II controlled substances, such as Adderall, through telehealth at the start of the pandemic. She says the change led to an increase in both attention deficit hyperactivity disorder diagnoses and prescriptions for Adderall.

FDA reported in 10/2022 that Adderall went into shortage due to ongoing manufacturing delays. In a letter to FDA and the DEA, Spanberger asked the two agencies for information on how they will work independently and jointly to alleviate the shortage.

She asked for answers to six questions on Adderall regulation and how the agencies will work to overcome the shortage.
