AdvaMed Recommendations on Consensus Standards

AdvaMed is making several recommendations to FDA in response to the agency’s public workshop on the appropriate use of consensus standards. The advocacy organization recommends that FDA:

issue a clear policy statement of a default three-year transition period for standards;
establish an e-mail list serve to notify subscribers of any updates to the FDA standards database;
provide additional information in the Supplementary Information Sheet (SIS) for partially recognized standards;
include historical information about the standard in the SIS; and
consider revising the language of the Declaration of Conformity (DOC) attestation and provide training on the appropriate use of DOCs.
