# Aerie Pharma NDA for Intraocular Pressure Drug

Aerie Pharmaceuticals has filed an NDA for Rhopressa (netarsudil ophthalmic solution) 0.02%, a novel once-daily eye drop designed to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension. The filing includes data from two Phase 3 registration named Rocket 1 and Rocket 2\. The company says it expects a standard 12-month review process.

Rhopressa is designed to target the trabecular meshwork, the eye’s primary fluid drain and the diseased tissue responsible for elevated IOP in glaucoma, Aerie says. The company also asserts that preclinical studies have demonstrated that the drug lowers episcleral venous pressure, which contributes about half of IOP in healthy subjects. Further, based on Aerie’s preclinical studies, Rhopressa provides an additional mechanism that reduces fluid production in the eye and therefore lowers IOP, the company says.
