Alkermes Starts MS Drug Phase 3 Test

Alkermes says it has started a new Phase 3 trial of its ALKS 8700, a novel, oral monomethyl fumarate prodrug candidate in development for treating relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis. The five-week head-to-head study is to evaluate the gastrointestinal tolerability of ALKS 8700 compared to Tecfidera (dimethyl fumarate) in about 420 patients with relapsing-remitting MS. The company says it plans to submit an NDA to FDA for ALKS 8700 in 2018 seeking an indication of treating relapsing-remitting MS.
