Alliance Supports FDA Funding Bill

The Alliance for a Stronger FDA says it supports the FY 2023 FDA funding proposed in legislation marked up on 6/15 in the House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee. The Alliance says the agency would receive $3.645 billion in discretionary budget authority funded in the bill, an increase of $341 million (10%) above the FY 2022 enacted level. “The proposed increase is in line with the Alliance’s ask for FY 23 budget authority funding for FDA and is, reportedly, slightly higher than the president’s budget request,” the statement says.

The Subcommittee says the increased funding will boost drug safety oversight, provide additional resources for in-person foreign drug manufacturing inspections, and improve drug and device supply chain monitoring and surveillance. “The bill also invests in our public health infrastructure by modernizing FDA’s data infrastructure to better ensure the safety and security of the food and medical supply chain,” it says.
