Alphamab Orphan Status for KN046 in Thoracic Tumors

FDA has granted Alphamab Oncology an orphan drug designation for KN046, a recombinant humanized antibody for treating thymic epithelial tumors. The thoracic tumors, mostly thymomas and thymic carcinoma, are inoperable and the metastatic ones have very poor prognoses, according to the company. Thymic epithelial tumor cells highly express PD-L1, so it is possible to benefit from immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy like KN046, it says, adding that an Australian Phase 1 clinical trial showed a high response rate, long-lasting response time and favorable safety. A Phase 2 clinical trial to treat thymic carcinoma began recently.
