Amag NDA for Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder Drug

FDA has accepted an Amag Pharmaceuticals NDA for bremelanotide, a first-in-class melanocortin 4 receptor agonist for treating hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in premenopausal women. The user fee review action target date is 3/23/2019.

HSDD is the most common type of female sexual dysfunction, affecting about six million premenopausal women in the U.S. It is characterized by persistent low sexual desire. Bremelanotide, which is designed to be used in anticipation of a sexual encounter, has a mechanism of action that impacts the balance between inhibitory and excitatory neural pathways in the brain to restore sexual desire.
