# AMC Policies Modestly Reduce Detailed Drug Prescriptions

Implementation of policies at academic medical centers that restricted pharmaceutical detailing between 2006 and 2012 was associated with modest but significant reductions in prescribing of detailed drugs across six of eight drug classes, according to research [published](http://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/2623607?amp%3butm%5Fsource=JAMALatestIssue&utm%5Fcampaign=02-05-2017&ref=fdaweb.com) (subscription or purchase required) online in the *Journal of the American Medical Association*. The article notes that changes were not seen in all of the academic medical centers that enacted policies.

The study compared changes in the prescribing behavior of 2,126 doctors at 19 academic medical centers.
