# Amgen BLA for Migraine Therapy Approved

FDA has approved an Amgen BLA for Aimovig (erenumab), a once-monthly self-injection for preventing migraines in adults. Aimovig is the first monoclonal antibody targeting the calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor approved for migraines, an [agency release](https://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm608120.htm?ref=fdaweb.com) says. Approval is based on data from three clinical trials. Overall, patients treated with Aimovig saw up to 2 ½ fewer monthly migraine days than those receiving placebo. The most common side effects in the clinical trials reported were injection site reactions and constipation, FDA says.
