# Analysis Finds Contamination a Top Drug Recall Reason

> An analysis by pharmacy researchers has revealed that the five most common drug recall reasons are contamination, mislabeling, adverse reactions, defective product, and incorrect potency. The [analysis ](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26843501?ref=fdaweb.com)says compounding firms were associated more frequently with contamination than were noncompounding firms. The researchers had examined all FDA-issued recalls for drugs (prescription and nonprescription, including dietary supplements) and biological products issued from 6/2012 to 12/2015\. A total of 21,120 products were recalled during the 30-month study period.
