AngioDynamics Expedited Pathway for Pancreatic Cancer Device

FDA has granted AngioDynamics an expedited access pathway designation for its NanoKnife System and a proposed indication for use in treating Stage 3 pancreatic cancer. Previously, the device was 510(k)-cleared for the surgical ablation of soft tissue. It uses low energy direct current electrical pulses to permanently open pores in target cell membranes, according to the company. “These permanent pores or nano-scale defects in the cell membranes result in cell death,” it says. “The treated tissue is then removed by the body’s natural processes in a matter of weeks, mimicking natural cell death.”
