Anti-Neuropathy Guidance for Cancer Drugs

FDA has published a draft guidance, Prevention and Treatment of Chemotherapy-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy: Developing Drug and Biological Products in Oncology, with recommendations to sponsors for the clinical development of drug and biological products intended to prevent and treat chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in oncology patients. The document pertains to development programs for drugs regulated by CDER and CBER.

The guidance says it focuses on (1) drugs intended to prevent or lessen the severity of CIPN during cancer treatment and (2) recommendations pertinent to drugs intended to lessen the severity of CIPN after cancer treatment is complete. “Conducting well-designed trials is crucial to increasing the availability of CIPN drugs for patients,” it says.
