Aratana Appetite Stimulant Approved for Dogs

FDA said 6/3 that it had approved Kansas City, KS-based Aratana Therapeutics’ Entyce (capromorelin oral solution), a new animal drug indicated for appetite stimulation in dogs. A CVM update called the drug a selective ghrelin receptor agonist that binds to receptors that stimulate appetite and a laboratory study had shown that Entyce increased appetite in normal healthy dogs.

“The side effects of Entyce include diarrhea, vomiting, increased thirst, and increased salivation,” CVM said. “The drug should be used with caution in dogs with liver or kidney problems.” Entyce is restricted to veterinarian prescription.
