Baxter Recalls 1 Lot of Sodium Chloride Rinsing Solution

Baxter International has recalled one lot of 0.9% sodium chloride irrigation, USP, 500 mL plastic pour bottle solution after a report was received that an insect was in the solution. Such foreign material contamination “potentially could result in a series of complications dependent in which anatomic location the irrigation is used, which could include inflammatory reaction, foreign body reaction, and infection which could be life-threatening,” a recall notice says. To date, the company says it has not received any adverse event reports related to the affected lot.

The solution is used to rinse debris and residue from wounds, and to rinse/irrigate during surgical procedures, Baxter says. It may also be used to flush or rinse medical equipment such as catheters.
