BD Suggestions for Microbiology Panel

Becton Dickinson says there are several things the Microbiology Devices Panel of the Medical Devices Advisory Committee should consider at its 9/8 meeting to discuss topics related to in vitro diagnostic devices used in pandemic preparedness and response. The company comment letter makes these recommendations for the panel’s consideration:

there is a need for clear, consistent guidance and submission prioritization;
provide clear guidance on what constitutes a “point-of-care” setting in a pandemic to allow critical treatment sites to test patients in these times;
expand at-home testing for other infectious diseases as appropriate; and
develop a whole-of-government national testing plan for future pandemics.
