Biden Sets New Cancer Moonshot Goals

The White House says President Joe Biden is reenergizing the Cancer Moonshot he launched in 2016 when he was vice president and setting ambitious new goals that he says will “end cancer as we know it today.” A White House online statement says the new goals are to:

cut today’s age-adjusted death rate from cancer by at least 50%;
improve the experience of people and their families living with and surviving cancer; and thus
end cancer as we know it today.

Specific activities listed in the document are:

reestablish White House leadership through a White House Cancer Moonshot coordinator;
form a “cancer cabinet” of government departments and agencies, including FDA;
issue a call to action on cancer screening and early detection;
host a White House Cancer Moonshot summit;
build on a White House cancer roundtable conversation series hosted over the last six months; and
require an all-hands-on-deck approach from the private sector, foundations, academic institutions, healthcare providers, and all Americans to reduce the deadly impact of cancer and improve patient experiences in the diagnosis, treatment, and survival of cancer.
