# Bill Seeks to Shift Drug Making to U.S.

In a bid to stimulate the domestic pharmaceutical industry and secure the U.S.’s drug supply chains, Congresswoman **Claudia Tenney** (R-NY) has introduced the Producing Incentives for Long-term Production of Lifesaving Supply of Medicines (PILLS) Act. The [bill](https://tenney.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/tenney.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/tenney%5Fpills%5Fxml.pdf?ref=fdaweb.com) proposes various tax incentives aimed at enticing pharmaceutical companies to shift their generic drug manufacturing operations to the U.S., including materials and testing operations.

The generic drug industry has been growing in countries such as India and China, driven by substantially lower production costs, Tenney says. However, this shift has raised concerns over insufficient drug safety measures and potential supply chain disruptions, especially in times of crisis, she notes.
