Bill to Speed Addiction Drug Treatments

Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) has introduced the Substance Therapy Designation Act that he says would allow for opioid, cocaine, methamphetamine, and alcohol treatments to be eligible for an FDA breakthrough designation. “The designation significantly expedites the development and review of such treatments,” he says in a statement (includes a link to the bill text). “On top of that, the bill ensures that the designation process for such treatments receives an even further fast-track.”

The bill would require the HHS secretary to grant a fast-track designation to opioid, cocaine, methamphetamine, and alcohol treatments, and to give such treatments priority review.
