# Bill Would Create FDA Inspector General

Sen. **Eric Schmitt** (R-MO) has introduced legislation to create new inspectors general for FDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Institutes of Health. In a [statement](https://www.schmitt.senate.gov/media/press-releases/senator-schmitt-introduces-bill-to-establish-new-oversight-for-public-health-institutions/?ref=fdaweb.com), Schmitt says the Improving National Safety, Public Health, Ethics, and Clinical Trials (INSPECT) Act is needed because “Americans’ trust in our public health institutions is at an all-time low since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. From draconian mandates to free speech censorship by ‘scientific experts,’ our public health institutions have done more harm than good for hardworking Americans. Gone are the times of woke DEI-focused research. It’s time the government works for the people, and my bill will ensure these agencies are doing just that.”
