# Bipartisan Opioid Misuse Bill Introduced

Reps. **Gerry Connolly** (D-VA) and **Morgan Griffith** (R-VA) have introduced the Curb Opioid Misuse by Advancing Technology (COMBAT) act that they say would encourage drug manufacturers to engage in studies demonstrating abuse-deterrent effectiveness and to increase diversity in abuse-deterrent technologies by providing for extended periods of exclusivity for some NDAs and ANDAs. A joint [statement](https://connolly.house.gov/news/griffith-connolly-introduce-the-curb-opioid-misuse-by-advancing-technology-combat-act/?ref=fdaweb.com) (includes link to bill text) says that the legislation also would require FDA to consider abuse deterrence as a condition of approval for a product.
