Breakthrough Designation for Immunicom Cancer Device

FDA has granted Immunicom a breakthrough device designation for its Immunopheresis therapy, which is based on a proprietary technology that selectively removes immune inhibitors from patients’ bloodstreams and thus enables their natural immune system to more-effectively attack cancer tumors. “By removing immune system inhibitors from the blood without introducing new substances, Immunicom’s therapeutic approach has been shown in preliminary preclinical studies to enhance anti-cancer immune system response without causing unwanted side effects,” the company says.

Immunopheresis is a blood fractionation methodology to remove specific blood components to stimulate a natural immune response. “The significant advantage of Immunopheresis over all non ‘pheresis’ types of immune therapy is that nothing is put into the patient and the materials removed are only a small portion of the patient’s total blood content,” the company says.
