# Breast Cancer Drug Combination Doesn’t Work: FDA

FDA says that a clinical study shows that Genentech’s Tecentriq (atezolizumab) in combination with paclitaxel does not work to treat patients with previously untreated inoperable locally advanced or metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (mTNBC). An agency [statement](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/fda-alerts-health-care-professionals-and-oncology-clinical-investigators-about-efficacy-and?ref=fdaweb.com) says Tecentriq in combination with Abraxane is not approved for use in breast cancer.

However, it says, Tecentriq in combination with Celgene’s Abraxane (paclitaxel protein-bound) is currently approved to treat some specified adults with mTNBC as determined by an agency-approved test. Continued approval of Tecentriq in combination with Abraxane may be contingent on the proven benefit of the treatment in additional trials, the agency says.
