Bridge Biotherapeutics Given Orphan Designation for BBT-877

FDA has granted Bridge Biotherapeutics an orphan drug designation for BBT-877, an autotaxin inhibitor that deregulates ATX, an enzyme found to be associated with inflammation and fibrosis. The early-stage compound of BBT-877 had been originally discovered by LegoChem Biosciences and Bridge Biotherapeutics acquired the worldwide exclusive rights in 2017.

Bridge says it will begin a Phase 1 study of BBT-877 in the U.S. next month to assess the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the drug candidate in healthy volunteers. The planned study will be in two phases, a single ascending dose phase with five cohorts and a multi ascending dose phase with three cohorts.
