Busse Hospital Recalls Tracheostomy Tray Kits

Busse Hospital Disposables has recalled its Tracheostomy Care Tray, Dressing Change Tray, and Tracheostomy Care Set in response to Nurse Assist’s 11/2023 recall of 0.9% sodium chloride irrigation USP and sterile water for irrigation USP due to sterility concerns. Busse says that the Nurse Assist saline is contained in the trays and kits, and the recall doesn't affect the integrity of other kit components.

“The use of affected trays or kits may cause serious adverse health consequences, including blood stream infections, urinary tract infections or respiratory infections and in the worst-case scenario sepsis and death,” a recall notice says. “People who have certain health problems like weak immune systems, who are otherwise susceptible to infection or chronic lung diseases may be more at risk.”

The tracheostomy care trays and kits come sterile packaged and include commonly used components for removing, cleaning and replacing the trachea tube.
