# ‘Cancer Moonshot’ Promoting Data-Sharing, Communication

> Cancer Moonshot Task Force executive director **Greg Simon** says there are very few unknown problems that are holding back cancer research. In a National Public Radio [interview](http://www.npr.org/2016/03/30/472442360/obama-task-force-director-on-the-cancer-moonshot-initiative?utm%5Fmedium=RSS&utm%5Fcampaign=health&ref=fdaweb.com), he says what is important is to take action to address the barriers that are known “because the overarching goal of this initiative is to achieve 10 years of progress in five years.”

> Simon says the task force is looking at ways to share data from cancer centers with other cancer centers to accelerate knowledge transfer. It also is looking for ways to better communicate with the public the importance of participating in clinical trials, and looking at the importance of the drug companies opening their compound libraries for more people to explore possible therapeutic agents in the libraries.

> On the issue of data-sharing, he says that “our technology for sharing has improved faster than our attitude about sharing, and that’s part of what the vice president is doing — helping to change that attitude so that people realize the more you share, the more you have.”
