Canon Medical Gets AI Cleared for CT Scanner

FDA has cleared a Canon Medical 510(k) for artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements for the Aquilion One/Insight Edition CT scanner. The modifications include the company’s new Precise IQ Engine (PIQE), which uses “deep learning reconstruction” technology to maximize the scanner's resolution, the company says. “This technology enables 1024 matrix CT imaging with exceptional high-resolution and no additional dose,” it says. “PIQE Super Resolution, initially launched for cardiac imaging, now extends to body and lung imaging applications.”

Another enhancement is the device’s use of the company’s SilverBeam Filter to optimize lung cancer screening by leveraging silver’s photon-attenuating properties to shape the X-ray beam, removing low-energy photons for an ideal energy spectrum. The applications of SilverBeam are also being expanded to include trauma cervical spine scans, the company says.
