Canon Medical MRI ‘Speeder’ Cleared

FDA has cleared a Canon Medical 510(k) for the compressed Speeder technology for the company’s Vantage Orian 1.5T MRI system that is intended to speed up MRI scan times by reconstructing full resolution images from under-sampled data through iterative reconstruction. The faster throughput allows for substantial time in between exams to help clean or disinfect the scanner if necessary, the company says. The software supports image acceleration and can be used to avoid unfolding error artifacts sometimes seen with standard parallel imaging, or can achieve higher resolution in 2D Fast Spin Echo acquisitions, Canon says.
