CDC Panel Backs Covid Booster Vaccines

CDC’s Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices 10/21 voted to recommend accepting FDA’s 10/20 amended emergency use authorizations (see earlier story) for booster doses of both Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccines. FDA also authorized the use of any available Covid-19 vaccine as a heterologous (or “mix and match”) booster dose in eligible individuals following completion of primary vaccination with a different available Covid-19 vaccine.

The expanded booster EUAs and the mix and match booster option now head to CDC director Rochelle Walensky’s)desk to accept or modify the committee’s recommendation. The CDC will also issue clinical guidance outlining who should get boosters and how soon.
