CDC Recommends Use of Novavax Covid Vaccine

The U.S. CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices 7/19 voted unanimously to recommend the use of the Novavax Covid-19 Vaccine, Adjuvanted as a two-dose primary series in individuals aged 18 and older. This follows last week’s FDA emergency use authorization (see earlier story). The company says the agency has also determined that its first vaccine lot has met all release specifications and is acceptable for use. Novavax expects to ship doses to the U.S. government-designated distribution center in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Novavax says it has signed agreements with its partner, SK bioscience, for manufacturing and supplying a vaccine version containing protection against the Omicron variant and for the manufacture of the vaccine in prefilled syringes. “Non-clinical data generated to date demonstrate that our COVID-19 vaccine offers broad immune responses including against circulating variants, such as Omicron BA.5,” it says.
