CDER Approved 50 New Drugs in 2021: Annual Report

CDER approved 50 new drugs either as new molecular entities under NDAs or as new therapeutic biologics under BLAs, according to the Center’s 2021 annual report on drug approvals, “Advancing Health Through Innovation.” The report says the “novel drugs CDER approved in 2021 are collectively notable for their potential positive impact and unique contributions to patient care.”

In her message, CDER director Patrizia Cvazzoni says a large majority of the new therapies were approved on or before their goal dates as defined in user fee agreements with industry. “Most drugs also were approved in the U.S. before any other country,” she says.
