# CDER Compliance Office Assignments Change

> CDER director **Janet Woodcock** has announced a change in workflow processes within the Center’s Office of Compliance effective 1/1 to prevent potential conflict of interest issues. Office of Compliance director **Cynthia Schnedar** must recuse herself from working on substantive issues relating to compliance actions and policy, according to the HHS Office of General Counsel Ethics Division, because Schnedar’s husband, **Mark Polston**, has been named an equity partner at King and Spalding.

> As a result, Office of Compliance deputy director **Ilisa Bernstein** is the lead on all substantive compliance enforcement and policy issues, while Schnedar continues to direct the general management of the Office of Compliance, including leading efforts in improving business processes and overseeing all human resource and budget issues within the office. “In particular,” Woodcock says, “Cynthia will continue to lead the Office of Compliance’s efforts in working with the Office of Regulatory Affairs and with CDER’s Office of Pharmaceutical Quality to implement the new team-based work processes that will be part of program alignment.”
