# CDER Promotes Deputy Slack to Head Strategic Programs

CDER has promoted Office of Strategic Programs (OSP) deputy director **Mary Ann Slack** to permanent director. OSP oversees many of the Center’s strategic initiatives and modernization efforts, including development of benefit-risk and other decision support tools, data standardization, program analysis, business informatics, and user fee negotiations. Slack has been serving as acting OSP director since March; she was the deputy for eight years before that.

Slack joined FDA in 2003 as a program manager for large-scale CDER information technology initiatives. She served as director of the Office of Business Informatics from 2007 to 2010\. She has a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the University of Maryland.
