CDER Taps Deputy Furman as Compliance Director

CDER has named Office of Compliance deputy director Jill Furman as permanent director after serving as acting director since previous head Don Ashley retired in November. Furman joined CDER in 2020 and has provided “strategic direction for risk-based decision-making in a broad range of critical areas, such as product quality assurance, recalls, drug labeling, and health fraud,” CDER director Patrizia Cavazzoni says in an email shared with FDA Webview.

Prior to FDA, Furman served 22 years at the U.S. Department of Justice’s Consumer Protection Branch, including the last eight of those years as branch deputy director, overseeing and directing civil and criminal matters involving FDA enforcement. She also served as an assistant district attorney with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in Boston, MA. Furman has a law degree from Boston University School of Law.
