Centerline Bio OK'd for Surgical Positioning Device

FDA has cleared a Centerline Biomedical 510(k) for the Intra-Operative Positioning System. The non-radiation-based surgical navigation system “leverages anatomical mapping algorithms and electromagnetic tracking technology to provide three-dimensional color visualization and guidance in real time during endovascular procedures,” the company says. It was developed at Cleveland Clinic’s Heart and Vascular Institute to address the need for a path away from X-ray fluoroscopy, which is currently the standard of care, despite severe visualization challenges, it says, adding that the device is intended to reduce procedure cost while improving radiation safety and patient outcomes.
