CGMP, Other Violations at Advanced Cosmetic Lab

A 4/21-4/27 FDA inspection at the Advanced Cosmetic Research Laboratories drug manufacturing facility in Chatsworth, CA, found significant violations of current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) regulations. A 9/26 Warning Letter says the agency has not received a detailed response from the firm for corrective actions to the observations identified on a form FDA-483.

Specific violations shown in the letter were:

failing to maintain buildings used in the manufacture, processing, packing, or holding of drug products in a good state of repair; and
failure of the firm’s quality control unit to exercise its responsibility to ensure drug products manufactured comply with CGMP and meet established specifications for identity, strength, quality, and purity.

The letter says the firm also is marketing misbranded unapproved new drugs.

Advanced Cosmetic was told to correct the violations promptly and to respond with a list of specific actions it has taken to address the violations and prevent their recurrence, with a schedule for completing the corrections.
