CGMP Violations at Canada’s Vegewax Candleworx

A 10/16-10/19/2023 FDA inspection at the Vegewax Candleworx drug manufacturing facility in Concord, Ontario, Canada, found significant violations of current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) regulations for finished drugs. A just-released 6/14/2024 Warning Letter says the specific violations were:

failure to test samples of each component for identity and conformity with all appropriate written specifications for purity, strength, and quality; and
failure of the firm’s quality control unit to review and approve all drug product production and control records to determine compliance with all established, approved written procedures before a batch is released or distributed.

The letter says the firm’s quality systems are inadequate and recommends that Vegewax engage a qualified consultant to assist it in meeting CGMP requirements if it intends to resume manufacturing drugs for the U.S. market.

Vegewax was told to correct any violations promptly and to respond with a list of specific actions it has taken to address the violations and prevent their recurrence, with a schedule for completing the corrections.
