Civica Planning for ‘Affordable’ Insulins

Civica says it will manufacture and distribute as early as 2024 three insulins that, once approved, will be available to patients with diabetes at significantly lower prices than products currently on the market. A company statement says it will produce glargine, lispro, and aspart, which are biologics that are interchangeable with Sanofi-Avantis’ Lantus (insulin glargine injection), Lilly’s Humalog (insulin lispro), and Novo Nordisk’s Novolog (insulin aspart), respectively. They will each be available in vials and pre-filled pens, Civica says.

The company says it will co-develop and manufacture the drug products, complete clinical trials, and file the necessary applications for FDA approval. It says it plans to set a recommended price to the consumer of no more than $30 per vial and no more than $55 for a box of five pen cartridges.

Civica says it has entered into a co-development and commercial agreement with GeneSys Biologics for the three insulin biosimilars.
