Clinical Hold on Ovarian Cancer Cell Therapy

FDA has placed a clinical hold on an Anixa Biosciences ovarian cancer chimeric antigen receptor-T cell therapy (CAR-T) being developed in partnership with Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC), requesting additional information before allowing the trial to begin. Within the next 30 days, the company and MCC expect FDA will provide a letter with the detailed and specific information requested.

The therapeutic product comprises engineered T-cells that target the follicle stimulating hormone receptor, which is found at immunological levels exclusively on the granulosa cells of the ovaries, Anixa says. “Since the target is a hormone receptor, this technology is also known as CER-T (Chimeric Endocrine Receptor T-cell) therapy, a new type of CAR-T,” it says.
