CME America Removing Recalled Infusion Pumps
CME America has decided to remove from the market all recalled (Class 1) BodyGuard Infusion Pump Systems because they may under or over infuse medications. The reason for the infusion errors is not known, a recall notice says. Using an affected infusion pump may cause serious adverse health consequences including death, it says. To date, there have been 158 complaints about the infusion issue. The device is intended to deliver fluids and medications into a patient’s body in controlled amounts.
In January, the company initiated the recall to notify customers of certain scenarios where the pumps may not deliver fluid at the accuracy specified in the instructions for use that could result in a slower than expected drug delivery or faster than expected delivery. The company says that pumps may have a delivery inaccuracy of up to about 13%.
